Coalition Will Focus on Protecting Innovation in Fast-Growing AI Space
Washington, D.C. – Today, AI Progress launched as a new coalition supporting the role of U.S. copyright law in enabling creativity and artificial intelligence innovation to flourish. Artificial intelligence tools that can be responsibly harnessed are poised to drive U.S. innovation, solidify global economic competitiveness, and provide significant societal benefit. The founding members of AI Progress include Amazon, Cohere, Google, Meta, Midjourney, Microsoft and OpenAI.
The coalition will focus on advocating for robust copyright policies that continue to support creators and incentivize responsible technological development of AI tools that can be harnessed appropriately to provide important benefits to education, healthcare, transportation, public safety, and social services, among others.
AI innovation is expected to become a critical driver of the economy, both through R&D and deployment of AI as well as the new markets, industries, jobs and efficiencies it creates. Goldman Sachs estimates that AI will begin to have a measurable impact on U.S. GDP as soon as 2027 and could increase global GDP by 7% each year in the coming decade. By harnessing the power of AI, the U.S. can drive innovation, boost economic growth, strengthen national security and remain a global technological leader.
